Immigration Services Internship

The International Institute is now accepting applications for unpaid internships. If you are interested in learning about or increasing your knowledge on immigration issues including refugee resettlement, permanent residency and citizenship, the Institute provides opportunities to work alongside individuals from countries around the world. Internships are usually 4 months in length with three terms a year.
Primary Duties includes:
  • Assist refugee and asylee clients with applications for permanent residency (Green Card Applications), citizenship, and refugee sponsorship forms
  • Maintain files and update databases
  • Respond to questions on permanent residency application procedures, becoming a U.S. Citizen, and refugee resettlement
  • Update curriculum for citizenship classes as needed
  • Take passport and immigration photos
  • Assist with small projects for other Institute programs
     
Recommended Qualifications:
  • Strong interest in learning about immigrant and refugee communities
  • Experience working effectively cross-culturally
  • Experience with computers and internet
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Hours:  Minimum of 12 hours per week required, Monday through Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm. (hours are flexible, depending on applicant’s class requirement)
Time Commitment:  The Institute will only consider applicants able to commit to at least one full term of service. Terms are defined below.
2011-2012 Start Dates:
  • Summer Term – May/June 2011 - August 2011. (Interviews in May)
  • Fall Term – September 2011-December 2011 (Interviews in August)
  • Spring Term – January 2012-April/May 2012 (Interviews in December)
